Many children's herbal extracts use glycerin only for extraction because it's a pleasant taste for children and some parents like the claim of "alcohol free'; however, glycerin is a sugar alcohol and makes for a poor extraction with many plants. Also, extracting with glycerin makes for a short shelf life. We add it in at the end to improve taste.*

Why the ACV? Soaking herbs before adding the vodka makes for an acidic environment that helps extract minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and trace minerals, some water-soluble vitamins, certain polysaccharides and plant acids, and compounds that don't extract as readily in alcohol alone. The alcohol then extracts compounds that vinegar is less effective at pulling out like flavonoids, alkaloids, resins, essential oils (not the same as the concentrated form sold on shelves), chlorophyll, fat-soluble constituents, and many antioxidant compounds.*
